Scientific breakthrough including ongoing development of vaccines for COVID-19 treatment

08:30 Registratione
09:00 Introduction
09:15 Which direction COVID-19 outbreak will take and the importance of data sharing and developing models for understanding the early stages of transmission and extrapolation to future events
10:00 Morning Refreshments
10:15 Ongoing development of vaccines for COVID-19 treatment in respond to a fast-moving, deadly outbreak with an uncertain clinical profile
11:00 COVID-19 spread: risks and uncertainties
11:45 Repurposing antivirals for their effectiveness against COVID-19 under this unprecedented and devastating situation

[While waiting for the new miracle drug, scientists are discovering promising treatment against COVID-19. As COVID-19 spreads, there are attempts by scientists to repurposing antivirals for their effectiveness against COVID-19. Most recent successful attempt including doctors in Thailand gave COVID-19 patients the anti-HIV medications lopinavir and ritonavir as well as a heavy dose of the flu drug oseltamivir. The treatment had improved the condition of several patients under their care. For instance, a 70-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan who tested positive for the COVID-19 for 10 days, but was cleared 48 hours after doctors tried the experimental treatment. As a reference point, this is not the cure, but the patient’s condition has vastly improved with no side effects of the drug, and under this unprecedented and devastating situation, saving life is paramount].
