For all its potential benefits BYOD creates security and management challenges… With the prevalence of smartphones and tablets, the issues of enterprise mobility and the associated “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) strategies are now a priority on the agenda for many organizations across Asia Pacific, Middle East, Europe and the region. Forward thinking organizations that have reaped the benefits of BYOD including, Bangkok Bank, Thailand that have saved US$500,000 by going BYOD and has also changed the way they work and interact with customers. Nearby Malaysia, the International Islamic University Malaysia has successfully deployed an enterprise-grade BYOD solution, cost-effective provision to manage mobile devices of over 10,000 users as well as leading MNC, Intel had 23,000 mobile devices in its BYOD program by the end of 2012. With an accumulation of around 5 million hours of annual productivity gains in 2012, Intel is now rolling out and expanding BYOD program further. Against this development, BYOD is set to rise but challenges remain. The main challenges are concerns around data security and compliance. Looking at this issue, for example, Malaysia has lost US$880 million over the last five years through BYOD cybercrime.
