Cambodia’s casinos are rapidly evolving, with an estimated 150 casino licenses at the end of 2018. Cambodia is rising from a tertiary gaming market to a super-regional gaming destination. With more robust gaming regulations, and currently the government is finalizing the drafting of its new gambling legislation, therefore, casino operators in other markets must take a closer look at Cambodia. In Japan, on 20 July 2018, the Japanese government has authorized the initial three casino resort licences to be built by the mid-2020s. This is a huge new revenue stream on the line for casino operators to consider Japan. Over in the Philippines, new casino development coming up, with construction to resume in early 2019 for the construction of the Westside City casino resort to meet a scheduled 2021 opening. Most recently, on 3 April 2019, the government of Singapore has agreed to a US$6.64 billion expansion plan for the build-out of its two integrated casino resorts.
