Vietnam is working on a long-term project to build a new North-South high-speed rail (HSR) line from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, that is essential to boost the transport system, including expanding the existing railway network to meet the increasing demand for transportation and enhance connection of big cities across Vietnam, as such, Vietnam’s Transport Ministry is moving ahead with plans in the pipeline for the construction of Vietnam’s North-South HSR expected to begin in 2020, and Vietnam’s North-South HSR route is due to be completed in 2050, in addition, this conference is a timely platform that offers plenty of opportunities to all forward-thinking companies involved in the business of managing a wide spectrum of large, complex, multi-phased and fast-track high speed rail infrastructure project, from planning and design, to construction, operation and maintenance, all this is geared towards successful delivery of the proposed US$56 billion project
With Vietnam’s economy growing above 6 percent on average over the past 10 years, the government is feeling the urgent need to boost the transport system, including expanding the existing railway network to meet the increasing demand for transportation and enhance connection of big cities across Vietnam. As such, Vietnam’s Transport Ministry is moving ahead with plans for Vietnam’s first HSR line to be launched by 2050. Currently, progress has been made to formulate the investment plans to realize Vietnam’s North-South HSR project, value at US$56 billion, as well as mapping up detailed routes on Hanoi-Vinh and Ho Chi Minh-Nha Trang section, covering a distance of 1,570-kilometres that runs along the entire length of coastal lowlands to connect Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Construction phase of the project is expected to begin in 2020 that will involve the upgrading of existing section of railway between north and south, allowing travelling between Hanoi and Saigon at speeds of up to 90 kph (56 mph). It will also include re-commissioning of currently unused sections of track, as well as the construction of new routes. Subsequent phase will cover the construction of new high-speed tracks and trains, enabling speeds of up to 200 kph (124 mph). All this will be completed by 2030. The final phase will be dedicated to bring upgraded railway infrastructure to allow speeds of up to 350 kph (217 mph) by 2050, bringing the project to completion. Vietnam’s North-South HSR project offers plenty of opportunities to all forward-thinking companies involved in the business of managing a wide spectrum of large, complex, multi-phased and fast-track high speed rail infrastructure project, from planning and design, to construction, operation and maintenance. As such, this conference set the momentum to secure an opportunity to participate and contribute towards successful delivery of the proposed US$56 billion project.
